Abstract

The preservation of cultural heritage buildings has an important role in maintaining the historical and architectural heritage of an area. Rumah Gadang Royal Siguntur in Dharmasraya Regency is one of the cultural heritage buildings that has high historical and architectural value. This research aims to identify the visual and spatial character of the Siguntur Royal Gadang House and formulate appropriate preservation efforts. The method used is descriptive analysis method with the approach of field observation, interviews, and document analysis. The results showed that the Siguntur Royal Gadang House experienced changes from seven rooms to five rooms due to restoration. In addition, some architectural elements such as wood carvings and spatial layout have been modified. Recommended preservation efforts include conservation of the original elements of the building, periodic maintenance, and the preparation of stricter protection regulations. In conclusion, the preservation of Siguntur Royal Gadang House requires a holistic approach involving the community, government, and conservation experts to maintain its authenticity and historical value.
